DODGE KINGSWAY FOR THE SCHWEPPES EAST AFRICAN CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE
Kamal Radia has entered a 1956 Dodge Kingsway in the over 3000cc touring car class of the Schweppes East Africa Concours d'Elegance which will be held at the Nairobi Racecourse on September 30th. This giant fire engine red American saloon car has been absent from the annual vehicle beauty contest for several years. In the past the Dodge was shown by Nanyuki motor enthusiast Nagin Chohan who earned several Class wins. Many hours of painstaking preparations are being spent by Kamal Radia, the proud new owner of the Dodge, to have the car in tip top condition to contest the class for large saloons. Kamal Radia will be up against the 1951 Rolls Royce limousine of Anil Lakhani and a 1950 Jaguar Mark V. Among the most recent motorcycle entries are two KTM machines which will be shown by Sport Motorcycles in the enduro and competition classes. Other enduro bikes include two Suzukis entered by Car and General. The annual Concours has been organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club for the past 37 years to reward car and motorcycle enthusiasts who take good care of their machines. There are 13 classes for cars and seven for motorcycles to cater for all makes and types. The regulations for the Concours,
the Classic Car and Motorcycle Sale and Auto Expo (the motor trade section)
are available from the Bob Dewar Publicity offices in Block G of Norfolk
Towers, Kijabe Street. The website for the event www.concourskenya.com
carries the regulations and full information for intending competitors.
Telephone enquiries may be made on 229793, or 316160 during office hours. The meticulously prepared machines which are judged at the Nairobi Racecourse during the Schweppes Concours are the treasured possessions of the entrants, but there are many unwanted classic cars and motorcycles in Kenya. To provide the motoring enthusiasts who flock to the Nairobi Racecourse for the Concours with the opportunity to buy unwanted classics (made in 1982, or earlier), the organisers hold a sale for these machines in conjunction with the Concours. The classic sale is limited to 30 entries on a first come first served basis. Another attraction is Auto Expo which consists of 28 motor trade stands showing a wide selection of the latest cars, pick-ups and 4 X 4s available in Kenya. In addition there are exhibits featuring accessories, lubricants, spare parts, tyres and wheels. Website
