ANIL LAKHANI ENTERS CARS AND A MOTORCYCLE IN THE SCHWEPPES CONCOURS

1951 ROLLS ROYCE. Car judges at last year's Schweppes East Africa Concours d'Elegance check the engine of Anil Lakhani's 1951 Rolls Royce. This classic British limousine will be a star attraction at the 2007 Concours which will be the 37th series to be organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners and will be held at the Nairobi Racecourse on September 30th.

Anil Lakhani is the only competitor who has entered both cars and a motorcycle in the forthcoming Schweppes East Africa Concours d'Elegance to be held at the Nairobi Racecourse on September 30th.

He will display a 56 year old Rolls Royce, a 1959 Opel Rekord and a 1974 Mini Moke. The Rolls Royce will be a star attraction in the over 3,000 cc touring car class and two years ago, this classic British limousine was declared the most elegant car in the event. Anil is working against the clock to finish rebuilding a 1958 Matchless motorcycle.

This year's Schweppes Concours d'Elegance will be the 37th in the series organized by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club and will feature Kenyan's finest vintage and classic cars and motorcycles. The event rewards the owners of well-kept cars and motorcycles and there are 20 classes for all makes and types. The organizers have already received over 50 car entries for this year's event and motorcycles are heading for the 30 mark. It is expected that there will be a full house of 70 cars and 40 motorcycles.

Among the latest entries are the 1946 Jeep of Peter Huth, a former racing and rally driver and three large "muscle motorcycles" including Motho Kimotho's 998 cc Yamaha YZ R1. Kimotho heads Ancient Exclusives which imports "super bikes" and these are great attraction for Concours fans.

Regulations and information on the Concours d'Elegance, the Classic Car and Motorcycle Sale and Auto Expo are available from the Bob Dewar Publicity offices in Block G of Norfolk Towers, Kijabe Street. The telephone numbers are 316160, or 229793 (office hours).

The Classic Car and Motorcycle Sale is open to any vehicle made in 1982, or earlier regardless of the condition of the machine. This helps the owners of unwanted classics to offer them for sale to potential buyers who are interested in such machines. In previous years the entries for the Classic Sale have varied from Concours condition to vehicles requiring a complete rebuild.
