1948 MG SPORTS CAR FOR THE SCHWEPPES AFRICA CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE A 1948 MG TC two-seater
open sports car is among the recent additions to the growing entry list
for the Schweppes Africa Concours d'Elegance which will be run by the
Alfa Romeo Owners Club at the Nairobi Racecourse on September 28th. The
Concours is the classiest event on the motoring calendar and is open to
cars made two years ago, or earlier and to motorcycles of any age. The annual Concours d'Elegance provides the owners of carefully maintained cars and motorcycles with the opportunity to parade their treasured machines in front of the appreciatiative crowd at the Nairobi Racecourse and to win prizes for high standards of preparation. There are 12 car classes including categories for touring cars, sports cars and machines made in 1940, or earlier. The eight motorcycle classes cover street bikes, trail and enduro machines and there is a category for competition motorcycles. Brian Barton's 1948 MG TC will be up against the Alfa Romeo 1750 Gran Sport Replica of Frank Hetimier in the 1.6 litre sports car class. The car which will be shown by Frank Hetimier was hand built in the Sametract workshop in the Nairobi Industrial Area using an Alfa Romeo engine, gearbox and rear axle. The chassis and body were painstakingly fabricated along the lines of the early 1930s Alfa Romeo sports racing cars.
